Mostly the birds got to them. Every now and then, one would fall into our yard — a small, heavy, burgundy globe just sitting in the grass like it had dropped in from another world.As a kid, I didn't trust pomegranates. I'd crack one open and feel immediately suspicious. Mostly seeds. The whole thing seemed like hard work. You had to work for every bite, and the reward felt disproportionately small. Why was there so much architecture around so little fruit? It seemed wasteful.
