My struggle with food started the day I started eating.
Due to my mother's illness, I couldn't be breastfed. Finding a formula I could digest became a desperate search. One after another failed bringing physical discomfort and something deeper: the early understanding that my body was different, that nourishment could hurt as much as heal.
The struggle with milk continued. Most of my life, I unsuccessfully managed my food sensitivities, leading to discomfort and sometimes real pain. I read books. I researched. I tried every solution I could find.
All that time, all that energy, all those years of feeling like my body was a puzzle I couldn't solve.
And then I had a realization that changed everything.
I was a data scientist. I trained at Rice University in Statistics and Cognitive Science, earned my PhD in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon. For over 15 years, I used data to solve problems for the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, Fortune 500 companies, and national nonprofits.
I knew how to find patterns. I knew how to turn numbers into decisions. I was good at solving other people's problems.
But I was living with a gap I couldn't close: the gap between what our bodies know and what our tools measure.
Mainstream wellness collects endless data like calories, macros, steps, sleep scores but rarely turns them into compassionate, actionable guidance. And traditional wisdom, the kind passed down through generations, the kind that works gets dismissed as unscientific.
I realized we didn't need to choose between ancestral knowledge and modern data. We needed both.
